In 1998, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has established in order to protect the environment. In the same year, DiCaprio donated $100 million to climate change charities through LDF

As we all know he is a Hollywood superstar. He was awarded his first Oscar only in 2016 for his performance in the film, The Revenant, but his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, Catch Me if You Can, The Aviator and The Departed among others won millions and millions of hearts all over the world.

He is a producer. He promises to bring the Captain Planet back to life, all the nineties kids waited eagerly to see the super popular superhero take the screen and save the planet again. You should know that he is the one Hollywood actor who is hell-bent on protecting the planet. The best proof of how much he actually cares is the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has established in 1998. The aim of this foundation is to protect ‘the world’s last wild places and saving vulnerable wildlife from extinction.’ He was only 24 years old back then. Even after 20 whole years later, his dream is to make the world a better place. He has donated millions to charity, apart from that DiCaprio has also bought Blackadore Caye Island, off the coast of Belize, only to preserve its mangroves from deforestation.

He has been spotted working with numerous environmental organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund over the years. You can find some really beautiful photos of wildlife and nature if you scroll through his social media pages. His associations with activists and photographers around the world deserve to be applauded.

LDF has been recorded to fund over 200 projects in 50 countries and five oceans, which support 132 organizations till date.

We all know that he had a pretty large heart to boast of, but there is yet to know how large it really is. His latest act of generosity has amazed and awed us.

The actor turned 44 earlier in this month. He made a donation through LDF that became a big story around the town. In order to combat the very real problem of climate change, he has donated a whopping $100 million to organizations who are working ‘on the front lines in every corner of the globe working to protect the earth and all of its inhabitants from climate change and the array of environmental crises it has created’.

DiCaprio said it started with the ‘simple idea’ of ‘getting critical funding to those who could have the greatest impact’ on the environment and ‘make a real difference speaking about LDF at a recent function that celebrated its 20th anniversary.

He said that, “Since 1998, we have supported over 200 projects on every continent and in every ocean from habitat and species conservation, renewable energy, climate change, indigenous rights, and more. I am pleased to announce $11 million in new grants across our six program areas, bringing the total financial impact of LDF to over $100 million.”

DiCaprio does quite a bit on his part to make amends even though he has received his fair share of criticism for living his life king size, zooming around in private jets and supercars. He also lives in a fully solar-powered house, and he is also reported to be a vegan who is against fossil-fuel and meat industries.

His actions are not merely a show to distract fans; you can see the two-decade-long success story LDF has to share. DiCaprio has in fact even used his Hollywood connections to spread awareness among people. He has talk about how important voting is recently appearing in a video with Brad Pitt.
