How to self-rescue if you fall through the ice – This Video Will Save Lives

How would you feel falling through ice on a frozen lake? Without a word it’s terrifying, but you can save your life if you keep calm. You’ll have a clear idea of what happens to your body when you fall into freezing water and how to climb back out onto the ice.

You should not try this on your own as this was conducted with help from others.

According to what the instructor says, your body will go into shock for 1-3 minutes and start to hyperventilate when you fall into the water. But, you can survive if you resist the impulse and try to keep as calm as possible.

Pull yourself up while staying as horizontal as possible when you find a solid portion of ice. Then you have to kick your legs to push yourself out of the water and roll away once you’re entirely on the ice. When you’re close to the hole, keep your weight distributed and remember not to stand up immediately. You can also use ice picks on you if you have to pull yourself away from the hole. When you’re out of the hole, remove your wet clothes and wear something warm as soon as possible.
