These optical illusions have existed since many years and you may have seen a few of these before. Joseph Jastrow’s Duck-Rabbit is one of the oldest illusions. Jastrow was a renowned American psychologist. He used the image to bring attention to point out that perception isn’t just about what your eyes see, but also of mental activity.
When sensory signals are matched to perceptual templates perception can occur. We create these templates, both consciously and unconsciously in our mind through our experiences. It’s also what we perceive is actually our brain’s interpretation of the information our eyes send it based on previous experiences. In this article, you can learn more about how perception works and some cool tricks it plays on us sometimes.
Here’s a quick test to see how your brain works, based on these illusions.
What Do You See First?
01 We are going to determine what kind of thinker you are after each image, based on what you see.
02 You most likely react to situations emotionally and passionately if you saw two women facing each other at first. And you are much more rational when it comes to making decisions if you saw 3 marble columns.
03 You are more likely the kind of person that completes tasks without much direction; you work best when you’re your own boss if you looked at this image and saw a dog with long ears at first. You’re the kind of person who thrives under instruction and structure; free form is not for you if you saw two cats first.
04 If you saw two faces leaning in close at your first sight, you are likely the kind of person that learns through experience and hands-on tasks. You’re more likely to learn through instruction and lecture if you saw a goblet first.
05 This is the Jastrow’s Duck-Rabbit. If you see a rabbit first you let your mind drift off from time to time if you aren’t stimulated. And you’ll see the duck first if you are able to keep focus, even when you are uninterested in what’s happening.
If you see a young woman with her head turned have a more vivid and wild imagination, they can entertain themselves for hours just being in their own head. You tend to be more based in reality; realism predominates your brain if you saw an old woman.
