‘families Don’t Have To Match’ – Black Couple Share Their Journey To Adopting Three White Children.

Sadie and Jarvis Sampson wanted to have a baby after getting married in January 2018, but they couldn’t get pregnant. They tried different things to help them have a baby.

“We used ovulation tests, prenatal vitamins, cycle tracking apps, fertility monitors,” Sadie shared with Love What Matters. “We even took the unsolicited advice of friends, family, and strangers who told us maybe we should just stop trying.”

The Sampsons spent more than a year hoping, praying, and waiting, only to be disappointed by one negative pregnancy test after the next. “It felt like we might have to get help from doctors to have a baby. We started talking to them about what we could do,” Sadie remembered.

After they had started to get used to the idea of just being an aunt and uncle, a text came that completely changed their lives in an instant.

The doctors didn’t really help the couple. They just kept saying Sadie needed to lose weight to get pregnant. Since they didn’t give any other suggestions, Sadie decided to have gastric surgery and lost 28 pounds.

Sadie’s doctor was really happy about her weight loss and told Sadie how proud she was of her progress.

“She told me that if I wasn’t pregnant within six months then she would refer me to a fertility specialist because she couldn’t prescribe me the fertility medication,” Sadie said. “I was over the moon about that. Finally, we got something other than a no! We got a ‘not right now,’ and we were thrilled.”

Unfortunately, the couple didn’t have a baby even though Sadie lost weight. They felt like they were right back where they began.

We got a call about our new family member two weeks ago for our adoption fundraiser update!

“I had always felt like I was meant to be a mother,” Sadie revealed. “After my surgery, my surgeon emphasized how fertile I might be, yet I still wasn’t getting pregnant. Eventually, we resigned ourselves to the idea that we were meant only to be aunt and uncle to our nieces and godparents to our goddaughters.”

Sadie and her husband were starting to get used to their situation when she got a text that changed everything. The message was from a friend, asking if they wanted to take care of a baby whose parents were thinking about adoption.

At first, the couple wasn’t sure about taking care of the baby for a short time while the mom got better. They were worried about getting too close to the baby. But things changed fast.

“The birth mom has decided she wants you to adopt the child instead,” the caseworker informed them.

“Holy crap!!” Sadie exclaimed when she learned they could become the child’s permanent parents. “We shifted from not having children to potentially fostering, to becoming full-time parents virtually overnight!” she recounted. “I was still reeling from the news when I called my husband. ‘Babe!! They want us to adopt the baby! They want us to be parents,’ I screamed. His response was disbelief, ‘Wait! REALLY?! I thought they just wanted us to foster him!’ ‘Nope! They want us to be his mom and dad,’ I clarified.”

Over the weekend, the couple had some time to think about what happened, but they also got ready in case the birth mother decided to change her decision.

On Monday, they got the news that the mom still wanted them to adopt her baby, and she was also ready to sign the adoption papers that day for an independent adoption.

Their little boy arrived early at 33 weeks, weighing only 4 pounds, 5 ounces. “He was so tiny, he could fit in my husband’s hand,” Sadie told us.

“He was so tiny, wrapped in a white blanket adorned with pink and blue stripes,” she continued. “He had an NG tube from his nose because he was too premature to eat on his own. But he was absolutely adorable!”

The couple shared their happy news on social media and were told to make a list of things they wanted. They wrote down 72 things, and amazingly, 55 of them were bought for them in only three days.

Ezra Lee officially became part of his family in October 2020, and they marked the occasion with a fun photoshoot wearing matching T-shirts that said “families don’t have to match.”

In 2021, Sadie and Jarvis grew their family by adopting embryos, and now they have twin girls named Journee and Destinee. Their family motto is all about love, and even though they are a Black couple, they are proud parents to three white children – a boy and two girls. Their family shows that love is what truly matters, not how you look.

If anyone dares to criticize this lovely family, they simply reply with one thing: their family is based on the strongest foundation of all – love.
